Detoxifying Serums Explained

Detoxifying Serums Explained

A serum is a skincare product that you can apply to your skin after cleansing with the intent of delivering powerful, specially formulated ingredients into the skin. It is best used before moisturizing. It is suited to this task because it is made up of smaller molecules that penetrate deeply into the skin and can deliver a highly concentrated dose of active ingredients. It makes them a great tool for targeting specific concerns, such as wrinkles. You shouldn’t use a serum too often, once a day at the very most. However, read the label to be sure.

In the traditional sense, detoxifying serums aren’t moisturizers although they do contain many moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acids to help the skin retain moisture and natural oils. Face lotions are richer and create a sort of barrier to keep all that good ingredients in.

Face oil and serums are different because serums are water-based typically. However, due to the rise in oil popularity, more and more serums are being created with oils. These serums go on top of the moisturizer because they contain a larger molecule. They keep the cream moist throughout the entire day.

There is a serum for every skin type or condition. Acne-prone - look for vitamin c, retinol, zinc, and salicylic acid. Dry skin - look for vitamin e, niacinamide, glycolic acid, and hyaluronic acid. Feeling dull - look for antioxidants like green tea extract, resveratrol, and ferulic acid.

These serums are super potent, so more is not better. Be careful before using too much. They can irritate sensitive skin.
